Fluorite is a semi-translucent stone, which is colourless in its purest state. Its colour varies depending on several conditions such as exposure to radiation, inclusions and the presence of fluoride ions. Fluorite’s name derives from the Latin word “fluere” which means “to flow” in reference to its low melting point, a quality that is much appreciated in metallurgy. Indeed, fluorite is used as a flux in iron smelting to reduce the viscosity of slags. Besides, it is also involved in the manufacture of opal glass, fiberglass and hydrofluoric acid.

Considered as a “third eye” by ancient civilisations, green fluorite symbolises rationality and intuition. In addition, it played a part in shamanic rituals as a means to connect with spirits.
