The 40 mm snowflake obsidian sphere is made of a variety of obsidian that is mainly found near the lava flows or domes of volcanoes. Snowflake obsidian is encountered on almost all continents. Its major deposits are located in Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Hungary, France, Ethiopia and Kenya. Some minor deposits are also seen in China, Indonesia, Japan and Russia.

Of volcanic origin, snowflake obsidian is rich in silica. It comes in black colour speckled with white, reminiscent of the starry night sky. Obsidian is derived from a character from ancient Rome Obsius, who brought the stone to the capital of the empire. The 40 mm snowflake obsidian sphere acts quickly and powerfully on the body.
