Emerald features among the precious stones. It is a dark green-coloured stone with visible mossy inclusions. This stone is actually a variety of beryl that contains chromium, vanadium and iron to which it owes its colour. Emerald formed over a million years ago within hydrothermal veins. When the veins cooled down, emerald crystals started to form. Nevertheless, scientists estimate that it requires a minimum of 100,000 years to fully develop a high quality emerald. As a result, this stone is rather rare.
